A quiet house while Ally is gone

The Plank house has been very quiet since Monday, when Ally departed for a brief church camp near Oxford.

Becky and I had grand plans to get a lot of work done around the house.  Those plans, unfortunately, were mostly derailed by her morning sickness and my laziness.

Instead, we ate out several times, laid around a lot, and generally enjoyed what will likely be one of the last times this house is quiet in a long, long time.

Every time Ally leaves, be it camp this week, or weekends spent with Grandma, we marvel at how much joy and energy she brings to our home.

Luckily, her camp takes lots of pictures, and posts them online for parents who miss their children.  Of course, we keep checking for new pictures, and downloading all the ones we find with Ally in them.  It's a little like "Where's Waldo?"

On my way to work this morning…

Change for the sake of it...

I hate change just for the sake of it.  Take, for instance, my favorite “ride” in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World: The Tomorrowland Transit Authority.

Sure, it’s a silly ride…it’s also relaxing and rather long…perfect for a hot day.

Here’s how I like to remember it:

Not able to leave good enough alone, they’ve replaced the old voice-over work with something much more generic:

Kind of kills the mood of the ride, if you asked me.

Saw the story about MCS receiving a big grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and this was all I could think of.

Yesterday, Ally, Becky and I, along with Becky’s mother and grandmother, took a fun 1 and 1/2 hour trip up the Mississippi River and back on the Tunica Queen.

If you are reading from the Memphis area, I’d encourage you to do this as an interesting way to spend the afternoon - although if I were you I’d wait until it cools off a little bit.

The boat has two outdoor decks for you to sit and watch your travels, as well as extensive seating inside.

The boat launches from the Tunica Riverpark, which itself is pretty awesome.  It is located right next door to Fitzgeralds Casino.

I don’t make a practice of blogging/writing/talking about work online, but the 5pm news yesterday was pretty entertaining.

The countdown at intermission is always one of the funnest parts…

Drive-in night three for the summer: Ally and I left Mommy behind to see G-Force.

If you want to see a great moon-related documentary this weekend, be sure to check out In the Shadow of the Moon.  It’s on DVD, or you might find it playing on cable/satellite.
